AND THEN ALL OF 2021 AS AN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE WHERE I DID, UH, RESEARCH AND CONSULTING.

UH, I GOT THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRAVEL TO THE MID LESSON AND DO SOME CONSULTING WITH, UH, RURAL COMMUNITIES, UH, THROUGHOUT NEBRASKA, SOUTH DAKOTA AND NORTH DAKOTA.

UM, SO LOOKING FORWARD TO BRINGING THAT EXPERIENCE INTO GOLAND.

UM, SO THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT PICKED IT UP VERY QUICKLY AND HAVE ROLLED WITH IT, AND WE ALREADY HAVE 150 ONLINE USERS, SO THAT'S 150 PEOPLE HAVE SIGNED UP AND ARE SUBMITTING PERMITS ONLINE.

LAST TIME I CHECKED AROUND 40% OF OUR PERMITS HAD BEEN SUBMITTED ONLINE ALREADY, AND WE JUST HIT A MONTH.

WE HEARD A PRESENTATION BY LISA DK ON OPERATING FARMER'S MARKETS, AND THEN ALSO HAD A PRESENTATION ON HG MEATS, WHICH IS OUR NEW LIMITED MEAT PROCESSING FACILITY HERE IN GLAND COUNTY.

UM, ALL OF THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPERS THAT CAME WERE JUST SO IMPRESSED WITH BOTH GUIN AND PTAN AND WHAT WE'VE DONE WITH OUR, UH, WORK WITH OUR AGRICULTURAL COMMUNITY AND OUR BUSINESSES AND, AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

SO, UM, ALSO THE, UH, V D A S COMMISSIONER WAS THERE AND HE TOURED ALL OF THESE THINGS WITH US.

SO, UM, HE WAS ALSO SUPER IMPRESSED WITH, WITH GUGLIN AND PTAN.

SO THAT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS AS WELL.

AND THAT WAS BACK IN THE BEGINNING OF OCTOBER.

UM, YOU MIGHT HAVE HEARD ABOUT OUR SMALL AREA STUDIES.

, THE CONSULTANT IS WORKING ON THE FINAL PLANS AND, UM, HOPE TO PRESENT THOSE IN A PUBLIC SESSION.

UM, WELL, THEY DID PRESENT THOSE IN A PUBLIC SESSION IN, AT THE END OF NOVEMBER, THE BOARD AND THE PLANNING COMMISSION IS GONNA HAVE A JOINT WORK SESSION ON JANUARY 11TH TO KIND OF DIG INTO THOSE.

AND THEN FINAL HEARINGS WILL BE IN THE SPRING.

SO IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN 'EM, THIS IS KIND OF WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE.

AND THEN THIS IS THE BREADTH AND DEPTH OF, YOU KNOW, IT'S HUGE.

UM, AND SOME VERY GOOD, LIKE SPECIFIC RECOMMENDATIONS ON BUSINESSES THAT WE NEED TO BE LOOKING AT TO TRY TO RECRUIT TO FILL IN SOME OF OUR GAPS.

UM, DOES THAT MATCH THE, UH, STRATEGIC PLAN AND THE, UH, VIRGINIA TECH RESEARCH AND THOSE TYPES OF THINGS OR, YEAH, THIS ONE IS A LITTLE MORE GEARED TOWARDS RETAIL OPERATIONS, UM, COMING INTO THE VILLAGES VERSUS MORE THE LARGER INDUSTRIES.

UM, BUT THOSE TWO THINGS, SO FOR EXAMPLE, ONE OF THEM WAS LIKE, LIKE LOCAL CHEESE AND WINE SHOPS OR

BOUTIQUE FOOD SHOPS, WHICH, YOU KNOW, ARE, IF WE HAVE A FOOD AND BEVERAGE LARGER, UM, DISTRIBUTOR OR LARGER, UH, MANUFACTURER, YOU KNOW, THOSE KIND OF THINGS JUST KIND OF GROW OFF OF EACH OTHER.

SO REASON I ASK IS THE LAST TIME I SAW THE, UH, I SAW THE CENTERVILLE VILLAGE MAP, IT WAS, IT WAS, I MEAN, BOUNDARIES, IT WAS A HUGE MM-HMM.

A HUGE AREA.

SO COULD THE BOUNDARIES HAVE NOT NECESSARILY CHANGED AND THE VILLAGE CONCEPT, BUT WOULD THEY HAVE TAKEN OUT, UM, AREAS AND DESIGNATED DIFFERENT LAND USES? SO LIKE, THIS IS MORE OF AN INTERCHANGE, SO A MORE OF A, A AUTO ORIENTED BUSINESS WOULD GO NEAR THIS INTERCHANGE.

THEN THEY HAVE DESIGNATED A VILLAGE CORE.

AND SO THAT'S MORE OF LIKE A SMALLER, MORE WALKABLE TYPE RETAIL STUFF, COMMUNITY, SMALLER RETAIL, UM, GOOD BOUTIQUE RESTAURANTS, UM, HOTELS, THAT KIND OF THING.

SO MOST OF THOSE WERE SMALLER INDUSTRIAL USERS, UM, LOOKING FOR AN EXISTING BUILDING OR FOR A LOT THAT THEY COULD BUILD ON, AND I JUST DON'T HAVE IT.

UM, SO UNFORTUNATELY, YOU KNOW, I'VE, I'VE SENT THEM WHAT I COULD AND, UM, HAVEN'T HEARD BACK FROM THEM, BUT FOUR OF THOSE 11 ARE STILL ACTIVE.

UM, SO WE'RE STILL WORKING ON THOSE, WHICH MAKES UP 17 TOTAL ACTIVE PROJECTS THAT WE'RE WORKING.

WE HAVE SUBMITTED FOR SMART SCALE FUNDING THROUGH VDOT FOR THE DIVERGENT DIAMOND INTERCHANGE THERE AT ASHLAND ROAD.

WE EXPECT TO

UM, THEY, IT IS A ROUGHLY 2 MILLION INVESTMENT IN EIGHT JOB CREATION.

UM, AND HE WILL BE BRINGING, UM, A U S D A CERTIFIED MEAT PROCESSING FACILITY TO HAYDENVILLE.

UM, HE DID A, A REALLY GOOD JOB, UM, OF LAYING OUT THE SITE TO PROTECT, UH, SOME OF THE ADJACENT PROPERTIES, UM, PROVIDING A HUNDRED FOOT BUFFERS AND DOING LOTS OF THINGS TO KIND OF, UM, TUCK THE USE BACK AWAY.

IT'S A WOODED, HEAVILY WOODED PROPERTY.

UM, THERE WILL BE NO RENDERING ON SITE, SO THAT HELPS KEEP DOWN SOME OF THAT SPELL AND SOME OF THE MM-HMM.

KIND OF THINGS THAT WEREN'T, THAT ARE NOT KIND OF UNSAVORY ABOUT THAT KIND OF USE.

UM, SO, BUT WHAT IT DOES IS IT ALLOWS OUR LOCAL FARMERS TO BE ABLE TO EXPAND THEIR HERDS AND TO EXPAND OUR PROFITS ON THEIR MEATS.
